I wasn't on the USS Peleliu for this operation, but I was aboard her for the WestPac. I was on the USS Fort Fisher, which was decommissioned on February 27, 1998. The USS Cleveland was also involved in this operation.

Aboard the Peleliu there is a painting of the island she's named after as well as a brief description of the battle that took place there. The battle for Peleliu is often called the forgotten battle of the Pacific war. Have you ever heard of the battle for Peleliu? There were eight Medals of Honor awarded at Peleliu. All of the enlisted recipients that died were between 19 and 21 years old and sacrificed their lives for others by throwing themselves on top of grenades.

The Peleliu had a brief scene in the movie Flight of the Intruder.
